We are asking you to be in a research study. The purpose of this consent form is to give you the information you will need to help you decide whether to be in the study or not. Please read the form carefully. You may ask questions about the purpose of the research, what we would ask you to do, the possible risks and benefits, your rights as a volunteer, and anything else about the research or this form that is not clear. When we have answered all your questions, you can decide if you want to be in the study or not. This process is called “informed consent.” You can find a copy of this form online for your records.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
This study aims to build computational tools to help individuals improve their writing. As part of the process, we hope to collect real data on how people write and edit their writings. We will choose a few communicative purposes: writing a slogan, text simplification, write a title, etc.
Based on your communicative goal, you will provide a first version of the writing and then work with computers iteratively to improve the writing.
RISKS, STRESS, OR DISCOMFORT
We do not foresee any risks except that the suggestions that computers come up with may be surprising at times.
BENEFITS OF THE STUDY
This study can advance current language technologies.
CONFIDENTIALITY OF RESEARCH INFORMATION
We will only collect texts in the process of interactive writing anonymously.
